Hall of Fame
Tommy Nobis , the first player ever drafted by the Falcons, is a member of the first-ever class of the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame . Nobis played his entire career with the Falcons (1966-76), earning NFL Rookie of the Year honors in '66 and five Pro Bowl selections in his 11 NFL seasons. Nobis' fellow-inductees include homerun king Hank Aaron, Braves manager Bobby Cox, Georgia Tech football coach Bobby Dodd, legendary golfer Bobby Jones, and Hawks basketball star Dominque Wilkins. The Atlanta Sports Hall Of Fame announced its inaugural class of hall of famers at an historic event at ESPN Zone in Buckhead on Wednesday, March 23, at 7:00 p.m ET. "These individuals are really national sport heroes and they belong to us -- Atlanta," said Larry Winter, President of the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame. "Not only are they great athletes but they are great role models. They've put the thrill in Atlanta Sports for generations. And, we want to recognize and honor them for their contribution." The Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame mission is to honor Atlanta sports heroes, remember great moments in Atlanta Sports History, and preserve the past from which future generations can learn and take pride. The Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame Foundation is a Georgia non-profit corporation and is a registered 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation with the IRS.
